Meeting point: Entrance of the Faculty of Geography and History
This guided tour explores the central role that craft guilds played in shaping Barcelona’s historical development. As we walk through the city’s oldest quarters, the Ciutat Vella, we will focus on the political, economic, social, and religious functions fulfilled by the guilds from the medieval period to the early modern era. Moving from guildhalls and devotional chapels to specialised streets and the key public institutions that governed guild life, the tour aims to contextualise the complex history of Barcelona’s trades and corporate structures through the material evidence that still survives in the city’s urban fabric today.
